Frequently asked questions

Pool safety fence questions, answered straight.

Pool fence laws in your state, mesh fencing, cost, installation, and keeping kids and pets safe. These are the questions families across the South ask us most.

01

Codes & laws

How tall does a pool fence need to be?

+

At least 48 inches (4 feet) in most of the U.S.

That’s the baseline in the ISPSC and IRC model codes most cities adopt: openings under 4 inches, self-closing, self-latching gates that open outward, and latches at 54 inches or higher. Some states and cities add their own rules. Florida, for example, has its own pool safety act. See pool fence laws by state.

Is a pool fence required by law?

+

In most places, yes, but the rule depends on your state and city.

Many cities require a barrier for any residential pool through their adopted building code. Some states add their own laws: Florida’s Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, Texas’ Chapter 757 for rental properties. HOAs often add rules too.

Are removable mesh pool fences code-compliant?

+

Yes, when they meet local barrier requirements.

Removable mesh fences are accepted in most U.S. jurisdictions when they meet the required height, climb-resistance, and gate rules and the ASTM F2286 standard for removable mesh fencing.

Which pool fence rules apply where I live?

+

Your city or county building department has the final word.

Start with our state-by-state guide, then let us check: every free consult includes a local code check by the operator who covers your area.

02

Service, cost & install

Do you install pool fences outside Texas?

+

Yes, across 11 southern states, through local operators.

We’re headquartered in Dallas–Fort Worth. Across the region, trained Texas Pool Barrier operators handle your consult and install. Find your state.

Who installs my fence?

+

A local Texas Pool Barrier operator who covers your area.

Every operator uses our products and is trained to our installation standards and to the pool barrier code where you live.

How much does a pool safety fence cost?

+

Pool safety fences are priced mainly by linear footage.

Gates, lockable latches, and deck conditions add to the total, and premium mesh costs more than standard mesh. Call 214-239-1278 or request a free consult for an exact quote.

How long does pool fence installation take?

+

Most residential installs are finished in a single day.

Larger pools, custom gates, or difficult deck surfaces can take longer. Your operator will give you a timeline during the consult.

03

Living with your fence

Will a mesh pool fence damage my deck?

+

No lasting damage.

Poles sit in small heavy-duty sleeve inserts drilled into the deck. If the fence is ever removed, matching deck caps cover the holes so the deck looks clean and finished.

Can I take my pool fence down?

+

Yes. Mesh poles lift straight out of their deck sleeves.

Take sections down for parties or roll the fence up for the season, then put it back in minutes. Only remove it when adults are actively supervising the pool.

Will a pool fence block my view of the pool?

+

Barely. Premium mesh is our most transparent option.

You can still see the water (and the kids) from the patio or kitchen window. Mesh comes in black, beige, brown, blue, and white, is UV-stabilized, and holds up to intense sun and storms.

04

Family safety

Is a pool fence enough to keep my kids safe?

+

A fence is the most important physical layer, but it works best alongside others.

Pair it with constant adult supervision, swim lessons, pool alarms, and CPR training. The same climb-resistant barrier keeps dogs and other pets out too. The fence is the layer that protects your family in the moment someone looks away.
